What the Culture Desk Covers
Culture coverage at Epoch Signal is not a lifestyle section. It is an attempt to take seriously the parts of daily life that political coverage usually skips past: how people get their information, what tools they use without thinking about them, and what they read, watch, and argue about when they are not thinking about politics at all — which, for most people, is most of the time.
The throughline across the desk is the same one that runs through our news and investigations coverage: named sources, real reporting, and a skepticism toward whatever narrative is easiest to write.

Culture writing runs on access — interviews, advance review copies, screening invitations — more than most other beats at Epoch Signal, which creates its own pressure to write kindly about people who grant that access. Our writers disclose when a publisher, studio, or venue provided advance material, and a disclosure does not buy a more favorable review. We would rather lose access than let it quietly set the terms of our coverage.
